Feathered Gothic, Cambridge 03 Sept 09

The first Feathered Gothic, Tholera decimalis, to light in an otherwise dismal catch; a female judging by the lack of feathering on the antennae.

Marbled Beauty, Cambridge, 19 Aug 09

Marbled Beauty Cryphia domestica is the only Cryphia species i've recorded in the garden. It has occured in modest numbers every year since i started trapping, but always the grey-green form with little variation. This morning, well as several of the form usually seen here, there was an attractive yellow-green variant in the trap.

The first Dark Spectacle Abrostola triplasia for the garden. According to the Waring/Lewington guide, this species prefers areas with acidic soils. Unexpected on the calcareous, clay-ridden alkaline stuff around CB1.

Farcet Fen moths, 4-5 July 09

After two weeks away and missing all this great mothing weather, I was itching to get the traps out when I returned home. First up was the 160w MVB which brought me a 50+ species, 400+ individual insect catch, followed on Saturday night with the 15w actinic which produced the expected much lower numbers, but did manage a first for the garden - The Miller.

The Miller, Farcet Fen, 5 July 09. Attracted to light (15w actinic). New for the garden.

Birds Wing, Farcet Fen, 4 July 09. Attracted to light (160w MVB)

Pale Prominent, Farcet Fen, 4 July 09. Attracted to light (160w MVB)

White Satin Moth, Farcet Fen, 5 July 09. Attracted to light (15w actinic)
