Early Spring Moths in Elton

Some early spring moths from my Elton garden. Species recorded so far:
Agonopterix heracliana/ciliella
Agonopterix alstromeriana
Tortricodes alternella
Emmelina monodactyla

Brindled Beauty (Lycia hirtaria)
Oak Beauty (Biston strataria)
Spring Usher (Agriopis leucophaearia)
Dotted Border (Agriopis marginaria)
Bright-line Brown-eye (Lacanobia oleracea)
Small Quaker (Orthosia cruda)
Lead-coloured Drab (Orthosia populeti)
Common Quaker (Orthosia cerasi)
Clouded Drab (Orthosia incerta)
Hebrew Character (Orthosia gothica)
Grey Shoulder-knot (Lithophane ornitopus)
Early Grey (Xylocampa areola)

Grey Shoulder-knot (Lithophane ornitopus)
Regular in the garden if rather scarce, this one was quite early on 9 March.

Lead-coloured Drab (Orthosia populeti)
This species failed to show in 2006 when March was very poor for recording moths, but otherwise is expected here on this date (14 March).

Bright-line Brown-eye (Lacanobia oleracea)
A bizarre record for 26 January, this flew into the house defying it's usual flight period by a good three months or more.

Orange Sallow, Cambridge

7 October 2006

Brief inspection of this moth dispelled quickly initial thoughts of The Delicate. Looks good for Orange Sallow, a garden first; thanks to Ian Barton for the id.
